PendingSpain's data-protection authority issued age-verification guidance in 2023 and the country is building a national digital-identity age-check tool, with adult-content sites expected to verify age. In February 2026, PM Sanchez announced plans to bar under-16s from social media with mandatory age verification (calling the current environment a "digital wild west"). A binding national statute is still in progress; Spain is also piloting the EU age-verification app.
